The Early May bank holiday is almost upon us.

It’s sure to be a day of rest for many as they kick back and enjoy a long weekend.

And they won’t need to wait long for another with an extra bank holiday set to take place the following week for the Coronation of King Charles III.

While many of us will be relaxing or spending time with loved ones, others may opt to catch up on housework or get their weekly shop done while they have time.

But will your local supermarket be open for the bank holiday? If you’re a Sainsbury’s shopper, we have the answers for you.

Here’s what you need to know before you grab your bag for life.

What time is Sainsbury’s open on May 1?

It’s business as usual for many supermarkets on the Early May bank holiday.

This is because, unlike Easter Sunday where stores over a certain size need to close due to trading laws, this bank holiday has no such laws pertaining to it.

However, they may operate under slightly different opening and closing hours so employees can start later or finish earlier to enjoy the bank holiday themselves.

Most Sainsbury’s stores will be open from 8am until 8pm for shoppers looking to grab their essentials or simply browse the stores.

Smaller Sainsbury’s Local shops will be open from 7am until 11pm as normal.

However, this may differ from location to location so shoppers are advised to check with their local branch beforehand.

You can find your nearest Sainsbury’s store online using their store checker tool by entering your postcode or sharing your location with your device.

Deliveries will also take place across the bank holiday unaffected.
