The Coronation of King Charles III is set to take place this week in a ceremony packed full of tradition.

The reigning monarch and Queen Camilla will take part in a procession leading up to the big event at Westminster Abbey on Saturday, May 6, with crowds expecting to descend to catch a glimpse of the royals.

A whole weekend of events is lined up to celebrate, including a special Coronation Concert as well as Big Lunches and parties planned across the UK.

What many will be looking forward to, however, is the extra bank holiday planned for Monday, May 8 to mark the occasion.

While some of us will use the time off work to spend time with loved ones, others may want to tick some tasks off that to-do list – including the weekly grocery show.

But will supermarkets be affected by the bank holiday? If you’re a Sainsbury’s shopper, here’s what you need to know.

Most large stores opening hours on the Coronation bank holiday will be from 8am until 8pm, though Sainsbury’s local stores will have the same opening hours as usual.

A spokesperson from Sainsbury’s told Metro.co.uk: ‘The vast majority of our supermarkets will be open from 8am until 8pm on Monday, May 8, for the King’s coronation. Our convenience stores will be open as usual from 7am to 11pm.’

Shoppers are encouraged to check with their local branch to find out their store’s opening times.

You can do this online using the online Sainsbury’s store locator tool, where you can enter your postcode or the area where you wish to find a store and look at their opening hours and other important information.
