Sadlier: Never take these days for granted
O’s moved to within a point of automatic promotion with a 2-0 win at Sutton United at the weekend, as Sadlier and Tom James netted outstanding goals in the first half-hour.
And they will look to clinch their spot in League One at Gillingham on Tuesday, before returning to Brisbane Road to host Crewe -to hopefully celebrate in front of their own fans – on Saturday.
“These days don’t come around often and you want to make the most of being the best team in the league,” midfielder Sadlier told the club website.
“You can go through a whole career and not win anything so you should never take these days for granted.
“It’s great to be involved in the place, it’s so positive, and we try and play the right way which I think is on the floor.
“We have to mix it up obviously, there’s teams that don’t play like that, and it gets a bit scrappy but we stick to what we’re good at and what we believe in and it’s coming good.”
Fellow goalscorer James had double reason to cheer after adding another superb effort to his season’s haul, with the Cardiff-born defender celebrating his 27th birthday.
“All the boys were singing happy birthday in the huddle, that was quite funny at the time,” he said.
“It was a nice way to top off the birthday. It come at a good time in the game as well, taking a good lead into half-time and thankfully we held it out as well.
“Every game now is massive, getting the points on the board.
“It was a tough second half, they put a lot of pressure, a lot of balls in the box but I thought on the whole we defended it well and just really happy with the win.”
Goalkeeper Lawrence Vigouroux kept a record 23rd clean sheet of the season as O’s extended their unbeaten run to 13 games and had a good view of the two stunning strikes at the other end.
And he paid tribute to his teammates, adding: “Sads’ one hit the bar and I thought it went over, I just saw him running off celebrating, it was a great goal.
“I said to him that’s the Sads I saw when I played him when we were in Ireland. It was a brilliant goal.
“And TJ, that’s just what we expect from him. He’s a top player at this level, left foot, right foot, he can score any type of goal. He’s a really good player and a great lad.
“It’s great to have him in the changing room, he keeps everyone happy and is laughing all the time. I’m really happy for him especially on his birthday.”
