Rylan Clark put on a fiercely fashionable display at the Barbie premiere on Wednesday night, as the BBC presenter scandal finally came to a head, with Huw Edwards being named as the person at the centre of the widely-publicised allegations.

The BBC Radio 2 presenter and former co-host of Strictly Come Dancing show It Takes Two opted for a white shirt with black piping, which he wore unbuttoned down to the waist to show off a series of silver chains across his torso.

He paired the statement top with black leather trousers, matching heeled boots and a silver belt.

Walking the pink carpet alongside a pal, they posed hand in hand for pictures surrounded by the glitz and glam of the event, which heralds Barbie’s arrival in cinemas later this month, starring Margot Robbie as the titular doll.

Barbie brand fan Rylan, 34, was also brandishing a slightly unexpected accessory in the form of what appeared to be a pink and green bubble gun.

The popular presenter previously vehemently denied that he was the BBC presenter who was taken off air for soliciting ‘sexual photos’ of a teenager, as his name was dragged into the scandal.

After rumours began swirling on social media this week, Rylan publicly distanced himself from the story alongside a host of other male BBC stars.

‘Not sure why my names floating about but re that story in The Sun- that ain’t me babe,’ he posted on Twitter.

‘I’m currently filming a show in Italy for the BBC, so take my name out ya mouths,’ he added, referring to Will Smith’s infamous line from last year’s Oscars, when he told host Chris Rock to keep wife Jada Smith’s name ‘out of his f***ing mouth’.

His statement came after he commented on a post of the newspaper’s front page being shared ahead of publication.

Late on Friday night, Rylan wrote on The Sun’s post: ‘It’s s*** like this that makes Twitter wild, I’m filming a new show in Italy for the BBC.’

BBC newsreader Huw Edwards was named by his wife Vicky Flind as the presenter in question on Wednesday evening, as she released a statement on his behalf, in which she said that he has been ‘suffering from serious mental health issues’ and is now ‘receiving in-patient hospital care’.

In her statement, Edwards’s wife Flind said: ‘’In light of the recent reporting regarding the “BBC Presenter” I am making this statement on behalf of my husband Huw Edwards, after what have been five extremely difficult days for our family.

‘I am doing this primarily out of concern for his mental well-being and to protect our children.

‘Huw is suffering from serious mental health issues. As is well documented, he has been treated for severe depression in recent years.

‘The events of the last few days have greatly worsened matters, he has suffered another serious episode and is now receiving in-patient hospital care where he’ll stay for the foreseeable future.

‘Once well enough to do so, he intends to respond to the stories that have been published. To be clear Huw was first told that there were allegations being made against him last Thursday.

‘In the circumstances and given Huw’s condition I would like to ask that the privacy of my family and everyone else caught up in these upsetting events is respected.

‘I know that Huw is deeply sorry that so many colleagues have been impacted by the recent media speculation. We hope this statement will bring that to an end.’

Claims have been made against Edwards regarding four individuals.

The first came from parents who claimed that their child, now 20, was sent more than £35,000 for sexually explicit images.

A second young person claimed to have received ‘threatening messages’ from Edwards, while a third alleged that he had broken lockdown rules to meet them.

A fourth young person, who is now 22, claims they were sent messages containing love heart emojis and kisses by the presenter.

In a statement this evening, the Metropolitan Police confirmed no criminal offence has been committed by Edwards.

A BBC spokesperson said: ‘We have seen the statement from the police confirming they have completed their assessment and are not taking further action. We’re grateful to them for completing this work at speed.

‘The police had previously asked us to pause our fact finding investigations and we will now move forward with that work, ensuring due process and a thorough assessment of the facts, whilst continuing to be mindful of our duty of care to all involved.’
