Ryanair warning for passengers – and it could cost money if you don’t act soon

BRITS who are flying with Ryanair this week have been issued a travel warning about checking in online.

Passengers need to check in online with the low-cost airline before arriving at the airport, otherwise they will have to pay strict fees.

Ryanair is one of the only airlines to charge passengers who fail to check in before getting to the airport, with a £55 fee the penalty.

However, the airline has warned that the website and app will be down for 11 hours between today and tomorrow – meaning passengers won’t be able to check in during this time.

Anyone with flights from 6pm this evening (November 8) until Wednesday, November 9 at 5am are being warned to check in earlier than usual.

If not, they could find themselves out of pocket, due to the website problems.

Ryanair said in a statement on social media: “Due to planned maintenance, Ryanair website/app will be temporarily down from 6pm, Tuesday 8 to 5am, Wednesday 9.

“Customers who are due to fly during this 11-hour period should check-in online before 6pm on Tuesday, 8 November.”

Ryanair states on their website that it is free to check in for flights, with Flexi Plus passengers given 60 days and everyone else given 24 hours before their flight.

Last month, a number of passengers were caught out by the rule.

One person wrote: “We spent 2.5 hours checking in online last night on 2 different computers to be met with countless errors.

“Then it appeared that it had worked – to be met with a £55 check in fee for 3 of us. The child in our group was in tears.”

Another person said: “£55 for check-in, that’s madness. Your app wouldn’t let me book in, and yet I’m sitting outside the boarding gate nearly an hour and a half before my flight??! Ripping people off.”

One dad said he had to pay another £220 for his family to check in at the airport for his partner and two kids.

Passengers will also need to have their boarding pass printed, or on their phone as a mobile pass, as there are strict rules for that as well.

Ryanair customers who fail to do so will have to pay a £20 charge to get theirs printed out at the airport.

Additionally, some destinations do not accept mobile passes, meaning passengers will have to have a printed copy.

Those places include Turkey, Morocco and Kefalonia in Greece.
