Ryanair plans cheap flights to Egypt in boost for Brit holidaymakers

RYANAIR could soon launch cheap flights to Egypt from the UK.

The budget airline is “in talks” with authorities in Eygpt, as well as Libya, to offer Brits direct bargain flights.

Ryanair’s only non-European flights are currently to Morocco, Israel and Jordan.

However, Egypt and Libya could soon be added to the list, with boss Michael O’Leary revealing the news at a Eurocontrol event.

He said “we’re talking to the Egyptians, the Libyans” about new possible flights outside of Europe, according to RTE.

Egypt is a popular winter sun destination for Brits, with some all-inclusive breaks for as little as £45pp a night.

The Ryanair boss also said he wanted to be the first carrier to offer flights to Ukraine, when it is safe to do so.

The airline has also launched its summer 2023 schedule, with thousands of destinations now on sale.

They confirmed that more than 2,500 routes are on sale with “even more exciting routes” to be announced throughout the coming weeks.

Earlier this year, they launched flights connecting Lapland with Stansted Airport.

Brits have been able to fly there with Ryanair since October 30, when the winter trips began.

They are available until the end of March, with flights making the trip on Monday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday of every week.

However, Mr O’Leary has warned that flights are expected to rise in price next summer.

Earlier this year, he said: “It’s inevitable that fares will go up.

“High oil prices mean they have to go up. There will be pressure on airfares into summer 2023.”

Citing the energy crisis, he said it will affect the “whole of Europe this winter.

“The overall market will struggle. The market in 2023 and 2024 will not return to pre-Covid levels.

“Where does inflation finish up? It depends how deep and dark the recession is and where the oil price settles.”

Meanwhile, another budget airline, Norse Atlantic, has announced that it has plans to connect London Gatwick to New York.

And from next year, Jet2 will be offering new flights to Turkey.
