Ryanair bans duty-free booze on flights to popular Spanish holiday destinations

Travellers on the airline have been warned that they’re not going to be allowed to take any alcohol on board.

That’s right, nothing.

So, any bottles in duty-free shops needs to stay sealed and locked away until your arrival.

The ban applies on flights from the UK to: Alicante, Barcelona, Ibiza, Malaga, Palma and Tenerife South.

If you do want to buy booze in the duty-free area, it’ll have to be tagged and stored in the hold for the duration of the flight.

Ryanair has said this rule has been put in place ‘to prioritise the comfort and safety’ of your fellow travellers.

In emails to customers who’ve booked to travel with the company, Ryanair has said: ‘In order to prioritise the comfort and safety of all passengers, Ryanair will implement the following restrictions on your upcoming flight to Spain:

‘Customers will not be allowed to carry alcohol on board and all cabin baggage will be searched at the boarding gates.

‘Any alcohol purchased in airport shops or elsewhere must be packed carefully in a suitable item of cabin baggage, which will be tagged at the gate and then placed in the aircraft hold free of charge if you have purchased priority boarding or have a small piece of hand luggage.’

If you don’t have anything that will allow you to properly store it in the baggage hold, you’ll just have to bin it.

And if you’re caught trying to sneak any alcohol on board, you run the risk of being kicked off the flight entirely, without getting a refund.

The airline said: ‘Boarding gates will be carefully monitored and customers showing any signs of anti-social behaviour or attempting to conceal alcohol will be denied travel without refund or compensation.’
