RS Cosworth kept by same owner for 33 years set to fetch an eye-watering price

A FORD Sierra RS Cosworth kept by the same owner for the past 33 years is up for auction and set to fetch an eye-watering price.

The 1987 Sierra RS Cosworth 3-door, with only 77,131 miles on the clock, is going under the hammer with a guide price of £55,000 – £60,000.

Hampson Auctions, who are handling the sale, described this car as “the real deal” and claimed that it’s in superb order throughout.

This example is finished in classic Moonstone Blue and trimmed in grey and red cloth.

And it was supplied new by Appleyard of Staffordshire and first registered in February 1987.

Hampson Auctions explains: “Released in the September of 1982, the Ford Sierra was a replacement for the ubiquitous Cortina and its German sibling, the Taunus.

“The aerodynamic styling was arguably ahead of its time and caused initial controversy – one eminent UK journalist nicknamed it the ‘jelly mould’.

“Ford had the last laugh, however, with sales eventually reaching 1,299,993 units over the 11 years of production, making it Britain’s 10^th most popular car up to that time.”

This 1987 Sierra RS Cosworth comes with its factory-fitted radio cassette, full-service history; its boot mounted PDI sticker – and a current MOT certificate valid until October 11.

The vendor has recently replaced the water pump, cam belt and front brake callipers.

And they are currently considering changing the turbo engine, five-speed manual gearbox, three-door bodywork, paint and upholstery to sell it in pristine condition.

Bidders have some time to think about their best price as the Hampson Auctions event takes place on May 13.

This comes after a classic Mini tucked away in a dusty garage for 33 years has been sold for an eye-watering amount at auction.

Plus, a rare Mini that was abandoned in a shed for decades has sold for more than £52,000 at auction.
