Rose Ayling-Ellis communicating in BSL with Strictly co-star Luba Mushtuk
Strictly winner Rose Ayling-Ellis, who is Deaf, shared a beautiful video alongside co-star Luba Mushtuk, communicating via British Sign Language (BSL) ahead of the upcoming live tour.
Rose made history by becoming Strictly Come Dancing’s first-ever Deaf contestant, winning alongside Giovanni Pernice last month.
Her involvement in the series saw a huge spike in the interest of BSL, and Rose has taken it upon herself to continue educating her co-stars.
In a video shared on both Luba and Rose’s Instagram page, the pair are seen signing to each other in BSL.
At the end of the conversation, Luba signs ‘I love you,’ with Rose responding: ‘I love you too.’
The Strictly stars then shared a sweet hug, while donning fluffy red dressing gowns as they got glammed up ready to dance again.
Luba captioned the clip: ‘Sign language its amazing, love learning it @rose.a.e’
They posted another video shortly afterwards, strutting their stuff to Beyonce’s iconic Single Ladies and giggling as they danced.
Rose has been vocal in her support of making BSL an official language in the UK, and it was previously confirmed Strictly will have a BSL interpreter present in every venue of the ongoing tour.
The official Instagram account for the Strictly arena tour wrote: ‘BREAKING NEWS! We are delighted to announce that a registered BSL Interpreter will be provided for every venue and performance of the tour, making this the biggest ever BSL accessible arena tour in the UK.’
They explained that ‘the interpreter will be displayed on two very large screens either side of the stage area,’ allowing attendees to ‘book tickets and sit almost anywhere in the arena to enjoy the experience with family and friends.’
Champion Rose was quick to celebrate the news on Twitter, writing: ‘Amazing!’
The EastEnders star previously said she wanted to appear on the show to raise awareness for the Deaf community and also sparked a huge surge in people applying to learn sign language.
According to language learning site Preply, the demand for learning sign language increased by 100% over the series.
After Rose and Giovanni stood with raised jazz hands after each performance on the series, their fellow celebs and pros started to do the same, sparking a 750% increase in the search demand for ‘sign language for clapping.’
Kicking off in Birmingham, the tour will span 23 dates, and appear in cities such as Nottingham, Glasgow and Manchester – before finishing off at the O2 in London.
