Roosters hoping radical switch saves season

The Sydney Roosters hope moving Joseph Manu into the halves will aid their finals bid, starting with a clash against the reigning premiers Penrith in round 16.

According to a Sydney Morning Herald report, Manu trained at five-eighth this week and will cover the absent Luke Keary in the halves for the Roosters.

Keary remains on the sidelines after suffering his latest head knock in the Roosters’ 26-18 loss to the Melbourne Storm in round 14.

With the talented playmaker still on the mend and the Roosters refusing to rush him back, Trent Robinson is prepared to turn to Manu.

According to the report, Paul Momirovski will slot into the centres, while teen star Joseph Suaalii will remain on the wing for the time being.

The Roosters currently sit ninth on the NRL ladder and are two points adrift of the eighth-placed Dragons despite having played one less game.

Robinson’s side will travel to Penrith’s BlueBet Stadium on Friday night to take on the reigning premiers at a ground which has been a fortress over the last few seasons.

Penrith currently sits on top of the NRL ladder having lost just one of its 15 matches this season.
