Roos fire into last four with thumping AFLW win

North Melbourne’s charmed run in the AFLW finals has continued, sending Richmond out in straight sets with a dominant win at Punt Road on Saturday.

The eighth-placed finishers squeaked past Geelong this week in a low-scoring affair, but had no issue scoring points against the Tigers as they emerged with a 11.8 (74) to 6.2 (38) win.

Both sides kicked three majors in an even first quarter, but the Kangaroos pulled away in the second, outscoring their opponents by 21 points and keeping them at arm’s length after the interval.

Jasmine Garner was the star of the show, being involved in everything and kicking two goals.

Her coach Darren Crocker described her afterwards as “just an out-and-out pro.”

“She was disappointed to have her colours lowered last time we played them, and not be able to help the team,” he said of Richmond’s regular season win over North.

“Everything for Jas, she’s such a quality person, and so good to have in the program, because it’s all about ‘how do I help the team?’

“She got to work with the midfield group this week, learnt a lot about herself and how she can shake a tag better, and I thought she was outstanding.”

The Kangaroos now will play Melbourne for a spot in the grand final while minor premiers Brisbane will play Adelaide, the latter eking out a 3.5 (23) to 1.5 (11) victory over Collingwood.
