Ronda Rousey made her epic WWE return in the Royal Rumble match.

The Baddest Woman on the Planet hadn’t been seen on WWE TV since losing the Raw Women’s Title to Becky Lynch at WrestleMania 35 in a Winner Takes All Triple Threat with SmackDown Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair.

Rousey came out at number 28 to an amazing ovation from fans in St. Louis, charging to the ring as Bad Reputation blared out.

She mixed it up with the Bella Twins, Natalya and more, getting some big eliminations as the field was whittled down.

She had a tense send-off with fellow former MMA fighter and close friend Shayna Baszler, and the two made it into the final four alongside Bianca Belair and Charlotte Flair.

She ended up in the final two opposite the Queen – who she faced one-on-one back at Survivor Series in 2018 – before making relatively quick work of her rival to secure the win.

It now means she’s poised for a world championship match at WrestleMania 38, with the current titleholders being Becky Lynch or Flair herself.

The women’s Rumble match was full of surprises, even with the likes of Lita, IMPACT Wrestling Knockouts World Champion Mickie James, the Bella Twins, Michelle McCool and more already advertised.

Mighty Molly – who got destroyed by fellow superhero Nikki A.S.H. – and Cameron both made their returns, while Ivory came out in Right To Censor character and Sarah Logan made an unexpected comeback.

Meanwhile, Melina’s night quickly went downhill as she entered at number two opposite Sasha Banks, clearly emotional about her WWE comeback – but the good times didn’t last.

It’s not clear if it was a mistake or not, but she was unceremoniously dumped out of the bout quickly, making it little more than a cameo in the end.

Back to Rousey, Fightful Select had reported before the bout, WWE officials were said to be keen to bring Rousey back into the fold after she stepped away after the loss to focus on starting a family.

The rumours spread on social media, and Becky Lynch responded to a tweet about a potential in-ring return.

Alongside a photo of herself holding the Raw Women’s Title – which she has held after the infamous Championship Exchange Ceremony with Flair back in October – she suggested she’s ready for Rousey.

She wrote: ‘Was wondering if you’d show up again. I’ve still got her and she’s doing great’.
