Ronaldo spotted in furious moment as Al-Nassr at risk of cup exit
Cristiano Ronaldo unleashed his frustrations on the Al-Nassr dug-out at half-time of Monday evening’s King’s Cup clash against Al-Wehda. Al-Nassr trailed 1-0 at the halfway point of their semi-final encounter, and Ronaldo looked far from happy with the prospect of a trophyless season.
A couple of poor results in the Saudi Professional League have left the 38-year-old striker’s hopes of a title in his maiden Saudi Arabia season hanging by a thread.
Al-Nassr sacked manager Rudi Garcia after a 0-0 draw against Al-Fayha earlier this month before interim boss Dinko Jelicic oversaw a 2-0 defeat to Al-Hilal in his first game in charge.
It left Al-Nassr three points behind league leaders Al-Ittihad, having played a game more, and potentially placing Ronaldo’s best chance of silverware this term on the King’s Cup.
However, at half-time in Riyhad on Monday, Al-Nassr trailed Al-Wehda 1-0, courtesy of Jean-David Beauguel’s 23rd-minute opener.
And Ronaldo looked furious as he walked to the dressing room, shaking his head with a disappointed look on his face before aiming his frustrations at the Al-Nassr coaching staff.
As he approached the touchline, he changed course towards the dugout before stopping and putting his arms out as he ranted about something to club staff.
Ronaldo then continued to head for the dressing room, exiting the camera’s view down the tunnel after a frustrating first 45 minutes.
The five-time Ballon d’Or winner’s night became no more enjoyable after the break as Munir denied a point-blank range header with an excellent save.
Ronaldo entered the game attempting to prevent failing to score in three consecutive games for just the second time since leaving Manchester United for Al-Nassr in the new year.
But his woes continued in the 82nd minute, hitting the bar from close range as it became apparent that it may not have been Al-Nassr’s or his night.
Ronaldo and co have six more league games remaining before his first campaign in the Middle East comes to a close.
Despite the financial reward for making the switch, winning is in Ronaldo’s blood, and another year without silverware would be a bitter pill to swallow.
