A recent concert by Pink Floyd’s Roger Waters was disrupted by a protester waving an Israeli flag.

The musician, 79, has hit headlines in recent weeks after he dressed as a Nazi and fired a ‘rifle’ during an on-stage stunt at a concert in Berlin.

During the stunt, the names of Holocaust victim Anne Frank and Al Jazeera journalist Abu Akleh, shot dead reportedly by Israeli soldiers while reporting on a raid in the West Bank, appeared on screens.

Waters has faced major criticism, with German police launched an investigation into suspected ‘incitement,’ however he hit back ahainst what he described as ‘bad faith attacks from those who want to smear and silence me because they disagree with my political views and moral principles.’

The musician insisted that the performance was ‘quite clearly a statement in opposition to fascism, injustice and bigotry in all its forms.’

Now the star’s gig has been targeted by a protester, who over the weekend stormed the stage waving an Israeli flag.

The musician was performing in the German city of Frankfurt when a protester appeared on stage.

In a video shared by Israeli journalist Emily Schrader, the protester can be seen scrambling on stage and running around waving the flag while Waters performs, before they are taken away by security.

At the same time, a number of people in the crowd also raise Israeli flags and begin singing Am Israel Chai, meaning The People of Israel Live.

Sacha Stawski, a member of the Jewish community in Frankfurt and who heads the group Honestly Concerned, told the Associated Press that the concert ‘should not have taken place under any circumstances’ due to the ‘historical background.’

During Kristellnacht, close to 3,000 Jewish people were rounded up and taken to Frankfurt’s Festhalle, where the concert took place.

Waters has strongly denied being antisemitic, writing in a statement following the backlash: ‘

Attempts to portray those elements as something else are disingenuous and politically motivated. The depiction of an unhinged fascist demagogue has been a feature of my shows since Pink Floyd’s The Wall in 1980.’

The musician said he has ‘spent my entire life speaking out against authoritarianism and oppression wherever I see it,’ recalling how Anne Frank ‘was often spoken’ of in his home and she became ‘a permanent reminder of what happens when fascism is left unchecked.’

‘My parents fought the Nazis in World War II, with my father paying the ultimate price.’

He finished: ‘Regardless of the consequences of the attacks against me, I will continue to condemn injustice and all those who perpetrate it.’
