Sir Rod Stewart has shared an unearthed video of him singing Sinead O’Connor’s best-selling hit Nothing Compares 2 U, in memory of the irish musician.
On his Instagram page, the 76-year-old is seen belting out the hit alongside Mary J Blige back in 1990, in a tribute to Nelson Mandela for his 70th birthday.
In view of his 1.3 million followers, Rod said of the late Sinead on Friday: “My heart goes out to Sinead O’Connor’s family. What a loss.”
Many of his fans gushed over his heartfelt tribute.
The Custom Biscuit wrote: “This is beautiful, I can’t believe that no one could help her, she publicly cried out for help, it’s just so sad xxx.”
MilaRose317 commented: “Thank you Rod, rest in peace Sinead O’Connor, a beautiful soul.”
Ali Mo typed: “Thank you Rod. RIP Sinead.”
The singer was found dead at her London home on Wednesday aged 56.
Her death isn’t being treated as suspicious and an autopsy will take place imminently.
Sinead was best known for her version of the Prince’s song released in 1990.
It contributed towards the success of her bestselling album I Do Not Want What I Haven’t Got.
Weeks before her death, the musician revealed she was planning to create new music as she showed off her Johnny Cash guitar.
Her admission came following her recent move into a new pad in South London.
Sinead put a pause on performing last year following the loss of her son Shane in January.
The 17-year-old’s death was confirmed as suicide after he was reported as missing.
The musician has another three children; Jake, 36, Roisin, 27, and Yeshua, 16.
She previously revealed the specific instructions she left to her kids in the event of her dying.
Speaking to People, she said: “See, when the artists are dead, they’re much more valuable than when they’re alive. Tupac has released way more albums since he died than he ever did alive, so it’s kind of gross what record companies do.
“That’s why I’ve always instructed my children since they were very small, ‘If your mother drops dead tomorrow before you call 911, call my accountant and make sure the record companies don’t start releasing my records and not telling you where the money is’.”
