Rod Stewart doesn’t want to sell £56m mansion after quitting LA
Sir Rod Stewart has revealed he is not keen on selling his Beverly Hills mansion and his children are also in agreement with the rocker.
The Maggie May singer, 78, listed the 38,500 square-foot property earlier this month, but he admitted the beloved luxury mansion holds too many fond memories.
“Basically, I don’t want to sell it, and the kids don’t want me to sell it either,” he explained. “There’s too many fond memories. I’ve lived [in L.A.] since 1975, and I adore the place.”
Rod will settle down in the UK with his wife Penny Lancaster, 52, and the couple’s two sons, Alastair, 17, and Aiden Patrick, 12.
Part of the reason why he plans to sell the property is that he wants to make England his permanent residence after the completion of his current world tour and Las Vegas residency in November.
The father-of-eight added to People that he “won’t take a penny under what I’ve asked for”.
Rod first moved to LA in 1975 after the hitmaker soared to fame when he launched his solo career and has had 11 number one singles and 12 number one albums – selling more than 130 million copies.
The main house has nine bedrooms and 14 bathrooms, multiple living rooms, a gourmet kitchen flanked by two sitting rooms, a wine room and a formal dining room with seating for 20 guests.
On the grounds of the property, there is a swimming pool and a five-a-side football pitch emblazoned with the crest of Rod’s beloved Celtic Football Club.
Rod also shut down claims he had dubbed LA “toxic” and told the same publication he adored living there, but has reluctantly put the property up for sale as he now spends the majority of his time in the UK.
He purchased the home that he just listed for $70 million in 1991, while he was married to model Rachel Hunter.
The rocker has also shared his plans to reunite with his eight children and three grandchildren after his daughter Ruby, welcomed her son Otis, and his son Liam, welcomed son Louis.
The musician is hoping to bring the family together for his tour dates in Spain.
Rod has eight children from previous relationships – Kimberley, 43, and Sean, 42, by his first wife Alana Stewart, Ruby, 35, by model Kelly Emberg and Renee, 31, and Liam, 28, with his second wife Rachel Hunter.
His eldest daughter, Sarah Streeter, was born when he was just 19 and she was adopted but the pair have since reunited.
He shares his youngest sons Alastair and Aiden with his wife Penny Lancaster.
