Rod Stewart brings up family member on stage at end of UK tour

British rockstar Sir Rod Stewart delighted concert-goers in Edinburgh as he brought his 94-year-old sister Mary onto the stage as he wrapped up his UK tour.

The Maggie May singer, 78, wowed Scottish fans with another incredible performance last week and decided to invite his sister up in front of the crowd during his rendition of the 1975 song Sailing.

One fan shared a clip of the moment online, where Sir Rod could be seen putting on a show in a black shirt with white stripes, which he layered with a black sequinned jacket.

His sister Mary then walked up to him to place a white sailor’s hat on his head, before putting an arm around her younger sibling.

“This is my sister! 94!” Sir Rod said by way of introduction, as she waved to the crowd.

He was also seen holding a Royal Banner of Scotland and was flanked by backing singers in sparkly sequin dressed and matching hats.

Sir Rod later told the Mirror what a pleasure it was to be able to share the stage with his sister in Edinburgh.

“At 94, she’s on a rock’n’roll stage and loving it. She has and continues to teach me about life,” he said.

The last two shows of Sir Rod’s UK tour ended in spectacular fashion at Edinburgh Castle last week.

The star was born in London, but previously his two brothers and sisters were born in Scotland before the family moved down.

He is still passionate about his Scottish heritage, however, and is a keen Celtic supporter.

Sadly, Mary is Sir Rod’s last surviving sibling, as his older brothers Bob and Don died last year at the ages of 88 and 94.

He also lost his elder sister Peggy to multiple sclerosis in 1975, when she was just 40.

In 2019, the star said that his siblings were “instrumental in supporting me, helping me get into music.”
