Rochelle Humes finally forgives her absent dad: ‘It’s in the past’
‘It was just me and Mum. She and Dad split when I was tiny, just short of one,’ she said, as reported via The Mirror.
She explained she had ‘little bursts of time’ in contact with her father as a child, but their relationship eventually stopped altogether.
‘Had you asked me at 18, I would have been like, I will never forgive that man for not being around for me,’ she said, adding that her JLS singer husband Marvin, who she married in 2012, helped her heal by being such a wonderful dad to their children Alaia-Mai, eight, Valentina, four, and 18-month-old Blake.
She continued: ‘When I had my own children, I weirdly became less curious about him. I saw what being a dad was from my husband and I knew what being a parent was because I was a parent and besotted and in love and lived my life for my kids.’
Time can’t heal the wounds completely, she says, but raising her own family has helped take some of the pain away.
‘There is not anything he would be able to say that could change the fact that he didn’t come to watch my nativity play and he didn’t put in that graft.
‘But acceptance can be a beautiful and liberating thing and to think, “I am not holding on to something that I can’t change. It is done and it is in the past.”’
The 32-year-old singer and TV presenter told the Diary of a CEO podcast she found her half-siblings after a chance meeting with Love Island contestant Kem Cetinay, who revealed he had been at school with her sister Lili and could put them in touch.
The This Morning star added that she and her siblings Lili, Sophie and Mark’s mannerisms were all incredibly similar and that contact with them has left her ‘not holding on to feelings of anger that my dad wasn’t around for me.’
‘Now we talk every single day. I can’t remember a time when they weren’t in my life. It really is a gift… There is always light at the end of the tunnel. My light is them.’
