Andrew Robertson has called for answers after Liverpool fans suffered appalling treatment in Paris before and after the Champions League final on Saturday night.

It was a night to forget on the pitch for the Reds as they were beaten 1-0 by Real Madrid at the Stade de France, but there were much worse scenes away from the pitch.

Liverpool fans were held in a tight area for hours before the game and unnecessarily attacked by police with tear gas while they were not allowed to enter the stadium.

There were then reports of muggings and attacks suffered by fans after the game with little police presence to interfere.

There has been widespread confusion as to why Liverpool fans were treated this way and the Reds left-back wants answers from the authorities.

Robertson tweeted: ‘To the Liverpool fans in Paris, what happened to you was disgraceful. You deserve so much better and now answers must follow. Hope you all got home safe.’

Despite the disappointing result in France, thousands turned up to a bus parade in Liverpool on Sunday as the squad showed off their FA Cup and League Cup trophies won this season.

Robertson added: ‘To the fans in Liverpool, I’ll never forget today’s parade. Thank you from the bottom of my heart! Means everything to the lads!

‘It’s been a long old season and we couldn’t have kept fighting without you by our side. See you next season.’

Robertson’s attention will now immediately turn to international duty as his Scotland side take on Ukraine in the play-offs to reach the World Cup later this year.

The winners will then take on Wales on Sunday for a place in Qatar.
