Robert De Niro’s daughter has made claims about how her son died.

The Goodfellas actor’s eldest daughter Drena De Niro confirmed the tragic death of Leandro De Niro Rodriguez at the age of 19 with a statement on social media on Monday (July 3).

Paying tribute to Rodriguez on Instagram, she wrote: ‘My beautiful sweet angel. I have loved you beyond words or description from the moment I felt you in my belly.

‘You have been my joy my heart and all that was ever pure and real in my life. I wish I was with you right now. I wish I was with you.

‘I don’t know how to live without you but I’ll try to go on and spread the love and light that you so made me feel in getting to be your mama.

‘You were so deeply loved and appreciated and I wish that love alone could have saved you.

‘I’m so sorry my baby. Rest in Peace and Eternal Paradise my darling boy.’

Rodriguez’s cause of death is yet to be properly confirmed, however, his mother has claimed that he died after taking pills that were laced with fentanyl.

Responding to a comment asking how her son died, she wrote on Instagram: ‘Someone sold him fentanyl-laced pills that they knew were laced yet still sold them to him.’

Drena, 51, added: ‘For all these people still f***ing around selling and buying this s**t, my son is gone forever.’

Fentanyl is a synthetic opioid that is up to 50 times stronger than heroin and 100 times stronger than morphine.

It is a major contributor to fatal and nonfatal overdoses in the US.

The allegations come after De Niro himself expressed his heartache over the death of his grandson.

Addressing his loss for the first time, he said in a statement to Metro.co.uk: ‘Im deeply distressed by the passing of my beloved grandson Leo.

‘We’re greatly appreciative of the condolences from everyone.

‘We ask that we please be given privacy to grieve our loss of Leo.’

Meanwhile, Rodriguez’s father shared a tribute also on social media.

Sculptor Carlos ‘Mare’ Rodriguez commented on Drena’s Instagram post announcing that their son had died.

He wrote: ‘My dear Drena… words aren’t enough to express the joy he gave us or the loss we now endure with our families and friends. He is Godschild now. ???????? On this full moon his spirit luminates what could not be seen in the dark. You can’t spell LOVE without LEO ???? ???? ????’
