Robbie Williams risks row with neighbour over plans for new fences

Reports suggest that singer, Robbie Williams, will increase the size of the walls around his £17.5 million home to stop neighbours and onlookers from being able to see into his home. 

The former Take That singer has asked Kensington and Chelsea Council for permission to make changes to his grade II listed property which could spark a row with neighbours.

The 48-year-old hopes to add wooden trellises to three walls of the property to stop passers-by from peering into his garden, MyLondon reports.

Robbie’s builders Barton Engineers wrote in a heritage statement: “It has been noted that due to the use of existing wall elements and the significant retention of soil within the plot, wall elevations are low and allow passers-by a view of the garden.

“Neighbours to the North and West have previously installed trellises, still present. As part of a proposed landscaping scheme, the designer has proposed the use of trellis panels as a low-impact way of increasing the privacy within the garden.”

The wooden panels will be fixed on the garden wall or they will be attached to posts in the soil. The engineers added that there will be little impact on the heritage value of the property and the fences will not obscure the wider views of the listed home.

The home originally formed part of the 500-acre estate of Holland House, originally known as Cope Castle, and it was built by Sir Walter Cope between 1605 and 1607. Earlier this year Robbie lost a battle to trim back a giant tree outside the West London home. The singer, 48, wanted to cut a 70ft tall Robinia tree outside his Kensington mansion after it caused his garden wall to crack.

Robbie lives next door to Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page, 78, and the pair have repeatedly butted heads over various attempts made by the younger singer to revamp his home.

Williams won planning permission to dig a giant “iceberg basement” with a swimming pool and gym underneath his property in 2019 after a five-year dispute with Jimmy.
