Rob Burrow refuses to let vandal attack ruin family festive day out

The Burrows wrapped up for a trip to Lapland UK to meet Santa and thrill to a winter wonderland of special treats.

Daughters Macy, 10, and Maya, seven, wearing matching green and white striped “elf” leggings, beamed with delight as they and brother Jackson, four, received husky toys.

Rugby league legend Rob, who was diagnosed with motor neurone disease (MND) in 2019, had snaps taken at the family’s special audience before enjoying the outdoor attractions at the Ascot venue in Berks. The Burrows then returned to West Yorks where they enjoyed a traditional Christmas at home.

They refused to let celebrations be spoiled by thugs who vandalised Rob’s wheelchair-accessible van on Christmas Eve.

Lindsey, 38, said: “Christmas is such a special time of year. Spending time with family and loved ones and seeing the excitement on the children’s faces on Christmas morning is what makes it all so special.”

Rob, 40, has called childhood sweetheart Lindsey his rock since being diagnosed with the degenerative neurological condition just before Christmas three years ago.

The Leeds Rhinos and Great Britain star has been campaigning tirelessly for a cure despite the impact of the disease.

He is raising funds for a £5million centre in Leeds and leading calls for the Government to fulfil a pledge to make £50million available to the Motor Neurone Disease Association as part of a £375million investment into neurodegenerative disease research.

He was made an MBE in 2021 and received the Helen Rollason Award at last week’s BBC Sports Personality of the Year event.
