River Plate chief confirms Julian Alvarez to Man City transfer
River Plate president Jorge Brito has confirmed that striker Julian Alvarez will be joining Manchester City, insisting it is a “done deal.”
City, who resume their campaign with an FA Cup tie against Championship side Fulham next Saturday afternoon, have been hot on the heels of the Argentine striker and have now agreed a deal, understood to be around £17.9million, to seal his signature.
Although City have not yet confirmed the arrival of the striker, River Plate president Brito has announced that a deal has been completed, which will see the 21-year-old become the club’s first signing of the January transfer window.
Furthermore, Brito has also confirmed that Alvarez will remain on loan at River Plate until July.
As quoted by Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Brito said: “We’ve a full agreement with Manchester City to sell Julian. The deal is done.
“He’s going to stay on loan here at River Plate until July 7.”
There was a sense of uncertainty regarding the conditions of Alvarez’s move to the Etihad Stadium, with it unclear whether or not he would return to the Argentine outfit on loan for the remainder of the season.
Brito, of course, has now confirmed that is the case, meaning Pep Guardiola will not get a clear look at City’s newest recruit until pre-season.
Alvarez, who was also linked with Manchester United earlier this month, has made a name for himself in Argentina in recent months, scoring 24 goals in 46 games in all competitions last season.
Turning 22 tomorrow, Alvarez has the ability to play centrally or out wide, although his preference is to play down the middle and act as goal-getter-in-chief.
