Rising Aussie ace shines in Sheffield Shield
Western Australia’s middle order was in sparkling form on day two of their Marsh Sheffield Shield clash with South Australia, posting an impressive 9-465 before declaring.
Josh Philippe and Hilton Cartwright found themselves together at the crease late on day one, following fireworks from Cameron Green and Shaun Marsh. They went on with it on day two, posting 77 and 69 respectively.
Both fell to leg-spinner Lloyd Pope, who ended with four wickets.

“It’s the way I like to play spin, I’m quite an attacking player,” Philippe said at stumps.
“I probably need to wind it back a little bit.
“I tried to take Popey on and got out, so I probably didn’t need to do that but I’m just trying to stay true to the way I play.”
In response, the Redbacks finished the action at Karen Rolton Oval at 2-164, with Jake Carder on 58 and Travis Head on 45, both unbeaten.
Both sides will be looking to get their Shield campaigns off to a flyer, in what has already been a disrupted domestic season.
Two potential fixtures between NSW and Victoria have already fallen through due to complications that have arisen because of the lockdowns that continue in both states.
