Ride-hailing firm offers P6,000 to P10,000 bonuses for new drivers

MANILA, Philippines —Ride-hailing company Grab Philippines is offering bonuses of P6,000 to P10,000 for new drivers to fill part of the additional 4,433 TVNS (transport network vehicle service) slots that the government is opening to ease a transportation shortage.

In a statement, Grab said it experienced a shortage of driver-partners due to “mobility standstill.”

“Pandemic-induced challenges led to some drivers-partners losing their loaned cars to repossession or drivers-partners moving on to other economic opportunities,” Grab said.

It said it was optimistic that the bonus offer would help address the shortage of driver-partners and meet growing demand for rides as the economy continued to reopen from COVID-19 lockdowns.

Grab made the announcement following a decision by the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) to open 4,433 TVNS slots starting Jan. 9.

According to Grab, new drivers who would partner with it would receive a P6,000 bonus if they operate four-seater vehicles and P10,000 if they operate six-seater vehicles.

The bonuses, however, are exclusive to TVNS license holders registered through Grab, the statement said.

“We are fully committed to providing a much better ride-hailing experience to our passengers as we welcome more driver-partners onto the platform,” it quoted Ronald Roda, Grab Philippines senior director for strategy and operations, as saying.

“We are optimistic that these new TNVS slots will truly benefit the many Filipinos who are back on the road on the way to their offices, families and even leisure destinations,” Roda said.
