Ricky Martin and husband Jwan Yosef confirm divorce after ‘wonderful years’

She Bangs singer Ricky Martin and his husband of six years Jwan Yosef have announced they are divorcing.

The couple revealed the news in a joint statement on Thursday.

“We have decided to end our marriage with love, respect and dignity for our children and honoring what we have experienced as a couple all these wonderful years,” they wrote in the statement which was sent to People .

“Our greatest desire now is to continue having a healthy family dynamic and a relationship centered on peace and friendship to continue the joint upbringing of our children, preserving the respect and love we have for each other.”

The couple have two children together daughter Lucia, and son Renn.

Ricky is also a dad to twin sons Matteo and Valentino, born via surrogate in 2008, whom he’ll continue to raise as a single parent according to reports.

The couple first met on Instagram in 2015 but they didn;t begin dating until six months later after meeting up in London.

Ricky confirmed that they had wed in January 2018 during a red carpet interview with E News!

“I’m a husband,” he told the show without disclosing the wedding date.

However he revealed that there would a celebration of their union at a later date saying: “But we’re doing a heavy party in a couple of months.

Ricky spoke about his nerves at proposing to Jwan during an November of 2016 appearance on The Ellen Degeneres Show.

He described the proposal as a “beautiful” moment and spoke happily about how his twin sons Jwan “love each other.”

He also revealed more details of how the pair met explaining that it was through Martin, Jwan’s paintings.

“I saw his art, and I went crazy because I really love what he does – really original. And I contacted him.”

Jwan Yosef was raised in Sweden after being born in Syria to a Kurdish family and is an accomplished conceptual artist who has had solo exhibitions in both London and Stockholm.
