Tottenham forward Richarlison has hinted at a potential exit from north London by admitting that he dreams of playing for Real Madrid. The Brazilian endured a tough first campaign at Spurs, and links to La Liga could see him jump ship before getting the chance to work with new manager Ange Postecoglou.
Richarlison has historically fared better on the international stage than he has at club level. The 26-year-old’s superb record of 20 goals in 42 matches for Brazil has endeared him to a host of top sides, and Los Blancos are reportedly among those interested.
Karim Benzema left the Bernabeu earlier this summer to join Al-Ittihad, and while Harry Kane is a top target for manager Carlo Ancelotti, it may prove difficult prising him away from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Richarlison, by comparison, would be a lot easier as the forward laboured to a disappointing haul of just one Premier League goal in his first season since completing a £60million move from Everton.
When quizzed on links to the Spanish giants while on Brazil duty, Richarlison admitted that playing in the famous white shirt would be a dream come true.
“Real Madrid links? Of course, every player wants to wear the shirt of Real Madrid,” he told reporters. “It’s the biggest club in the world. But I have a club, a contract, I have to prove why it they bought me for a high price. But any player dreams of playing for Real Madrid.”
Richarlison first arrived in the Premier League when Watford snapped him up as a fresh-faced prospect from Fluminense in 2017. The forward managed five league goals in his debut season, which tempted Everton to splash the cash.
As had been the case at Vicarage Road, fans at Goodison Park immediately took to the Brazilian, who has always supplemented his goals with a never-say-die attitude and an aggressive will to win. His best form was absent last term, however, as former Spurs boss Antonio Conte relied heavily on Kane’s goals and often consigned Richarlison to the bench.
It remains to be seen whether the Brazilian will give Postecoglou the time of day, having lashed out at Conte last season over a lack of game-time. “There are things I can’t understand,” he told TNT Sports Brazil after Spurs were knocked out of the Champions League by AC Milan.
“There was no explanation again, let’s see what he [Conte] will tell me but I’m not silly, I’m a professional that works hard every day and I want to play. There hasn’t been enough minutes given to me this season – and forgive my language – has been s**t.”
