Richard Madeley found himself pondering whether he would be okay with his wife Judy Finnigan having a romantic liaison with a robot.

The joy of morning television is you never really know what’s going to be up for discussion, and mere seconds into today’s Good Morning Britain Richard, 67, made the random admission.

‘This artificial intelligence thing, every day it brings a new story. Now we’ve got people having affairs with virtual partners, with robots,’ he began.

‘I don’t know what I’d think if I came downstairs at two in the morning to see where Judy had got to, and she was sitting at the kitchen table – tap, tap, tapping, having an intimate relationship with a robotic bloke.’

Richard has been married to Judy, 75, for over 35 years, so we imagine that they know each other pretty well. He remarked that this imagined scenario would be a surprise to him.

‘I’d think she’d gone mad,’ he stated.

‘I think I would probably agree,’ added co-host Susanna Reid.

Although she pointed out there was a ‘significant difference’ between a virtual and real person. ‘Is it really cheating?’ she marvelled.

‘Is it the same as catching your partner watching pornography?’ Richard responded.

Susanna, 52, quickly shut down that line of conversation before it progressed, arguing it was too early.

Elsewhere on the show, Chris Tarrant was being interviewed to promote his new book It’s Not a Real Job.

In order to ensure he looked smart for the morning appearance, he purchased a new suit but there was a big problem.

Although the ensemble looked pristine and well-fitted, the shop had forgotten to remove the security tag – something which he failed to notice until it was too late.

The plastic attachment is designed to be difficult to remove outside of the shop, and can even spill ink if tampered with or rip articles of clothing, so Chris did the sensible thing in not attempting to fix the problem himself.

This meant Chris, 76, had to sit through his interview with the sizeable anti-theft device attached to his back.
