Richard Hammond has already ruled himself out as a potential Late Late Show host after James Corden confirmed his departure.
The Gavin and Stacey actor, 43, confirmed his last instalment of the American talk show would come to an end next year, and plans to move back to the UK after spending nearly a decade in the US with his family.
During Friday’s edition of The One Show, presenters Alex Jones and Ronan Keating asked Richard and actress Parminder Nagra what they thought about James’ exit.
When the Life is a Rollercoaster hitmaker asked Richard, 52, whether he could see himself taking James’ place, the former Top Gear host quickly shut it down.
‘Uhhh no,’ Richard quipped.
‘I’d have to remember lots of names and stuff wouldn’t you? I’d mess it up, too complicated for me.’
‘He [James] did rather well though, didn’t he?’ he added.
Guess Richard is out of the running then!
After taking over from host Craig Ferguson in 2015, James has gone on to become a big name in Hollywood, thanks to his Carpool Karaoke series and movie roles including Into The Woods, Peter Rabbit, Cats, and The Prom.
The comedian shared his homesickness for the UK back in 2020, but for now will likely remain in LA, where the show is filmed – alongside his wife, Julia, and the couple’s children.
Bend It Like Beckham star Parminder also weighed in over James’ exit via video chat during the latest episode of The One Show.
‘I just heard this morning on the radio this morning,’ she said.
‘By the time he finishes it, it will be about eight years, is my understanding, which doesn’t seem like that long.
‘But I was a bit shocked because it seems like such a great show, and he’s doing so well with it.’
The One Show airs weekdays at 7pm on BBC One.
