Richard E Grant might be one of the most recognisable actors in the world, but he’s revealed he had to remind Alison Hammond they’d met before when she didn’t remember.

Last month the actor, 65, and the This Morning host Alison, 48, were announced as this year’s Bafta film awards hosts.

The 76th annual awards ceremony will be held at the Southbank Centre’s Royal Festival Hall on Sunday.

Leading the coverage will be the actor, who has starred in movies and films including Gosford Park, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, and Downton Abbey.

Meanwhile former Big Brother housemate Alison will lead Bafta Studio, an immersive and access-all-areas experience as part of the BBC One show.

While they’ve been busy preparing together since landing the gig, Richard has shared that there was a slightly awkward moment when they first caught up.

‘We had met before, because I was on the show that she is on, on another channel,’ he said, referencing the ITV breakfast program, while appearing on BBC’s The One Show on Friday.

‘She said we hadn’t met before and I said “yes we have” and I gave her the date and she was shamed,’ he joked.

Jumping in to say the correction would have been a ‘low point’ for Alison, The One Show host Jermaine Jenas thought the story was totally hilarious.

Speaking about hosting the prestigious event for the first time, Richard indicated he was a little bit nervous.

‘Hosting is a bit like a peanut selection in that do you go dry, roasted, honied, caramelised, salty or just plain Ricky Gervais Armageddon?,’ he said.

‘You have to do it and hope you will entertain but not offend people.’
