Revision for exams – Zarah Miah – GGS

It is nearly exam season for many people, whether it be your GCSEs or a-levels. This can be an incredibly stressful time and it is important to have a good revision timetable planned so you have some structure. Of course, you can revise at school however, revising at home is what is going to give you that extra boost to achieve the grades you desire. If you do not know how to revise, then this article is just for you!

Revision techniques

Firstly, you want to create yourself a timetable. This is so you have everything organised and you know what to revise for that day. You could include days where you do not revise, and it is your free day, you could do one subject per day or even two. Whichever you decide, do not overcrowd your day else you may start feeling overwhelmed.

Revision cards: This a simple, quick revision style where you write down a summary of information onto a small card and it is easier to refer to than notes. Some people may even put a question at the front of the card and answers at the back for a mini quiz.

Past papers: Questions are always getting repeated within exams as to why it is important to go over as many past papers. This will not only help you recognise some questions but also it will improve your speed. The faster you finish a paper, the more time you have at the end to check over your answers. This does not mean to rush your paper and not answer the questions to the best of your ability!

Mind Dumping: This is when you pour all the information in your head onto a sheet of paper. Any mistakes or any information you have missed, add it with a different coloured pen and revise what you have forgotten. This way you are not revising the things you already know, and your time will be used efficiently.

Conclusion

Now that you know many revision styles, choose which one you think will help you most. It is important to also not let revising get in the way of your sleeping, eating and, physical activity as these are all things that help benefit our physical and mental health. You want to be feeling healthy during exam season.

Revise well and you will do well!
