Retro Ford Escort RS Mexico in jaw-dropping condition up for sale at auction

A gorgeous 1978 Mk2 Ford Escort RS Mexico is going under the hammer, although there’s a catch as to why it’s in such amazing condition.

The RS model was previously in need of extensive bodywork repairs, so the owner decided to use a different Escort body shell to complete the restoration process.

Unfortunately, no Mexico shells were available to use, so a standard left-hand drive Mk2 shell was picked for the job and prepared and painted, 

The current owner has stated that it was a “mint” Ford shell, and that he only fitted RS parts throughout, and judging from the pictures he did a pretty good job.

The 2.0-litre petrol engine has also been fully rebuilt, while further impressive mods include electric power steering, bigger brakes and Bilstein shock absorbers.

Inside, the cabin has been completely retrimmed with black cloth seats, while there’s a three-spoke RS steering wheel for the driver to use.

Amazingly, the Escort has a fresh MOT until June 2024 with no advisories, which means that the car should be ready for some spectacular road trips in the future.

Classic Car Auctions who are handling the sale, have the RS advertised with a guide price of £30-35k, with the event taking place on June 17th.
