Rescued lurcher mum and her eight pups now thriving in new homes
A sweet family of lurchers who were found in filthy conditions have finally got the happy ending they deserve.
When twelve-year-old lurcher Ceeva and her eight puppies were rescued by the RSPCA, the family were in a terrible way.
Mum Ceeva was underweight and the team were worried she wouldn’t be able to feed her little ones.
To make matters worse, all the canines were also infested with worms.
Inspector Krissy Raine said: ‘They were living in filthy, unsanitary conditions, and were all infested with worms and suffering from diarrhoea.
‘Ceeva was really underweight and there were concerns that her owner couldn’t afford to feed her and the puppies.’
Thankfully, Ceeva and her pups – Faith, Felix, Finn, Flora, Florence, Flossy, Frank and Fred – were taken in by the RSPCA Felledge Animal Centre, in County Durham.
And, thanks to the team nursing them back to health, all of the dogs have now gone to new, loving homes.
Little Finn went to his new family at the start of February and is settling in well.
His new owner, from Durham, said: ‘He’s very affectionate and playful, and such a handsome little chap. He’s a lovely little boy and we feel very lucky to have him.’
Strong-willed and playful Frank is now with his new family in Chester-le-Street – who say the pup is a fast-learner.
They commented: ‘He’s already started to pick up new habits and reserved seats in each of the rooms in the house so he always has a comfy spot to snooze in. We love him so much already.’
While Flora – now renamed Tilly – is enjoying life in her new home in South Tyneside.
Despite being a little shy at first she’s now starting to come out of her shell and show her bubbly personality. She also loves a comfy sofa – or, even better, a comfy lap – and adores her food.
Her new owner says: ‘She’s sleeping well at night, waking up to visit the garden and we’re now trying to teach her not to bite.
‘I work from home so she’s already appeared on a number of meetings and charmed everyone she has met. She loves watching the telly and is enjoying the Winter Olympics.
‘She is such a joy and great fun – I’m really looking forward to our journey together.’
Mum Ceeva – now named Eva – has also been reserved after several successful ‘meet and greets’ with her new owner.
Once she recovers from her neutering surgery, she’ll be able to go home, too.
