REI to open new store in Glenwood Springs
A new REI Co-op will open to the public on Friday in Glenwood Springs on Colorado’s Western Slope.
The store will host grand opening festivities over the weekend, including giveaways of coffee and camp mugs, and boot and sandal cleanings.
“The community has been very welcoming to our arrival and our team of 41 is excited to be a resource to local residents’ active lifestyles and visitors who come to play in this amazing region,” said Jace Harms, store manager, in a statement.
The 20,300 square-feet space will open at 9 a.m. on Friday and Saturday, and 10 a.m. on Sunday. On top of offering a selection of gear, the Glenwood Springs location will offer bike, ski and snowboard shop services with mechanics on-site.
The public can shop at REI, but the retailer also offers memberships. More than 1.1 million Coloradans are considered lifetime members, with over 3,000 in Glenwood Springs before the store’s opening.
The Centennial State claims eight other REI locations in Boulder, Colorado Springs, Denver, Dillon, Fort Collins, Grand Junction, Greenwood Village and Lakewood. An REI store closed in Westminster’s Orchard Town Center in 2020 when it couldn’t reach an agreement with the landlord.
The outdoor recreation giant, headquartered in Seattle, ranks as the biggest consumer co-op in the U.S.
