RECORD numbers of holidays are set to be booked in the next few weeks as travel operators offer huge discounts on trips abroad.

Some companies will have half-price deals to sunshine hot spots, including Egypt and Turkey, to entice travellers battling the cost of living crisis.

Research by Travel Republic showed more than two thirds of people were planning a trip soon.

And Not Just Travel said five times as many people spent Christmas Day booking holidays than did so the year before.

Co-founder Steve Witt said: “Bookings on Christmas Day were significantly higher than expected.”
