Rebel Wilson’s Pitch Perfect contract ‘prevented her from losing over 10Ibs’
The actress, who recently became a mother for the first time, was a household name in 2012 following the release of smash-hit musical film Pitch Perfect.
Also starring the likes of Anna Kendrick and Elizabeth Banks, Rebel played fan-favourite character Fat Amy, who labeled herself with the name so people ‘don’t do it behind my back.’
Now the Aussie actress, 42, has claimed it was in her contract during the popular film trilogy that she could not lose more than 10 pounds (4.5kg).
Appearing on popular podcast Call Her Daddy, the star, who has in recent years lost 77 pounds, said she had to maintain her weight to continue playing the character.
‘I couldn’t lose a massive amount of weight because I was in the contracts for that movie,’ she said.
‘You can’t lose, I think it’s not more than 10 pounds (4.5 kilograms), or gain more than 10 pounds. You have to kind of stay at the weight. It’s in your contract.’
The massively popular Pitch Perfect films ran over five years, with Rebel explaining she had to wait until the franchise was complete before thinking about ‘getting healthier.’
She did so, she explained, partly to try and have a baby, after being told by a fertility doctor she would have a ‘much better chance’ if she lost weight.
This hit her ‘hard’ as she enjoyed her ‘fantastic bigger life,’ even as she admitted frustration with constantly being vast as ‘that fat funny friend’ rather than ‘the love interest.’
Having lost a large amount of weight in 2020, last year rebel welcomed a baby girl, Royce, via surrogate, alongside girlfriend Ramona Agruma.
The star joyously announced in November that she had become a mum, recently calling her daughter a ‘miracle’ as she revealed the surrogate had miscarried previously.
‘I tried with one surrogate to have the baby and sadly the embryo miscarried which is really… you get so excited when it takes and it was really sad,’ Rebel recalled during an appearance on podcast The Pick Up with Britt, Laura and Mitch.
‘I was mourning at that at the time, but then to have a second embryo, it was amazing.’
Rebel said: ‘I really do think it’s a bit of a miracle it happened. I’d been through quite a bit on the fertility journey for a few years but I was like, “Wow.”
‘Now I look at it and I have a family, I have an instant family kind of thing and little Roycey is amazing, she is such a little angel.’
