Read Sinéad O’Connor’s brutal response to Piers Morgan’s GMB invite
Piers Morgan has remembered Sinéad O’Connor after her death aged 56 as her savage rejection to appear on his TV show has resurfaced.
The Nothing Compares 2 U singer’s family confirmed she had died on Wednesday night, with police the following day announcing she had been found ‘unresponsive’ at her home in London.
The Irish legend’s death has sparked an outpouring of grief from fans and leading entertainment figures, including from Russell Crowe and Sharon Horgan, with Piers, 58, among the latest stars to pay tribute.
The former Good Morning Britain presenter’s condolences have also prompted an email O’Connor sent to his TalkTV team, calling out his obsession with Meghan Markle, to go viral on social media.
On Twitter, the broadcaster wrote, alongside a picture of him posing with the No Man’s Woman singer in an ITV studio: ‘RIP Sinead. Wondrously gifted singer, and fiercely intelligent, highly amusing, complex, uncompromising, provocative woman with many demons.
‘Knew her for 35 years & we had some ferocious spats but also some great Guinness-fuelled make-ups. She was a unique character. Sad day.’
Piers later paid further tribute to O’Connor on Wednesday’s Uncensored, describing her as ‘courageous and a rebel at heart’ on the show she had previously turned down.
Last year, on her former and now inactive Twitter account @OhSineady, the Troy musician revealed the brutal response to the invite, adding that she hoped it would make Piers ‘chortle his tea out of his nose.’
The email sent to one of his producers read: ‘Hi Piers, I think it’s best I don’t do your show because of the irresistible temptation I would have to point out that you’re dying to be balls deep in Meghan Markle so bad it’s driven you crazy, and that your dislike of Prince Harry is down to his being balls deep in her ten times a day.
‘It being the case that if you were ever to get near her, which would never happen, you’d last ten seconds: and that would be that for ten days.’
Piers quickly responded to O’Connor’s message and appeared to take it in good humour, beginning a Tweet by remarking that it had been a ‘delight’ to hear from the musician and that he did ‘indeed chortle my tea out of my nose.’
He continued: ‘Three things.. a) I haven’t hosted a breakfast show for a year. b) I actually fancy you, not Meghan. Think it’s the GI Jane hair thing. c) I was so sorry about your son. Hope you’re OK.’
Piers was referencing the death of O’Connor’s teenage son Shane, who died by suicide at the age of 17, 18 months ago.
Her final post to social media was remembering Shane, calling him the ‘love of her life’.
O’Connor wrote: ‘#lostmy17yrOldSonToSuicidein2022. Been living as undead night creature since.
‘He was the love of my life, the lamp of my soul. We were one soul in two halves.
‘He was the only person who ever loved me unconditionally. I am lost in the bardo without him.’
Piers Morgan: Uncensored airs Mondays – Thursdays from 8pm on TalkTV.
