Raphael Varane has welcomed the ‘warrior’ Casemiro to Manchester United following confirmation of a deal to bring the Brazilian to Old Trafford.

United will sign the 30-year-old midfielder from Real Madrid in a deal worth close to £60million, subject to a work permit and a medical.

The Brazil international leaves the Bernabeu with a extortionary haul of 18 major honours, many of those shared with Varane and Cristiano Ronaldo during their time together in the Spanish capital.

Varane started alongside Casemiro in three successful Champions League finals before joining United last summer.

And the France international is relishing a reunion with his old teammate.

‘Many battles fought together with my warrior Case! Welcome to Manchester, amigo,’ Varane wrote on Instagram.

Casemiro is expected to sign a four-year deal with the option of a fifth early next week. In an emotional tribute to the midfielder on Friday night, Real Madrid also shared plans for a farewell ceremony at the Bernabeu on Monday.

Varane meanwhile joined United on a four-year deal last year but endured an injury-disrupted first season in England, starting 20 of United’s 38 league games after suffering groin and hamstring injuries.

The World Cup winner is yet to start a game under Erik ten Hag, coming off the bench at half-time with United four goals down to Brentford last Saturday.

The United boss however is confident the best is still to come from the Frenchman.

‘100 per cent, I am convinced of that,’ ten Hag said earlier this month.

‘During pre-season we built a real careful and individual training plan that in the last three weeks he has been involved in every session on the pitch. I am really happy about that.’

United are back in action at home to Liverpool on Monday.
