Ranbir Kapoor discussed the potential plot for the sequel where the story would take place 10 years after the original film, offering a glimpse into the current lives of Bunny, Naina, Avi, and Aditi.

In the romantic drama released in 2013, Ranbir portrayed the character of Bunny, Deepika played Naina, and Aditya and Kalki played Aditi and Avi, respectively. The movie primarily focused on their love stories and enduring friendship.

In a 2018 interview, Ranbir Kapoor spoke about the potential for a sequel to Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani and said, “Ayan is on the journey to make Brahmastra, which is very time-consuming. But we have often spoken about Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani 2. He also has an idea for it and he seldom says we should have just done that it would be an easier film. More easier than Brahmastra, because he is going quite crazy, making this film. You never know. Maybe between Brahmastra Part 1 and 2, we get a window of six months.”
