Ralf Rangnick has hinted he could bring Jurgen Klopp trait to Manchester United
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp may have already offered Manchester United an insight into what they can expect from Ralf Rangnick as their interim manager.
United sacked Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as manager on Sunday after the Norwegian oversaw his a fifth Premier League defeat in their last seven matches.
Michael Carrick took over as caretaker boss but the Manchester Evening News now understands Rangnick is set to get the job as interim boss until the end of the season, before moving into a consultancy role for two years.
Although he is an unknown figure to many in English football, the 63-year-old is adored in his native Germany and has been a mentor to several coaches, including Julian Nagelsmann and Klopp.
Klopp swapped Germany for England in 2015 and has been a roaring success at Anfield, rebuilding the squad with the right type of player to suit his philosophy and long-term plan.
And his work at Liverpool may have given United an insight to what Rangnick can bring to the table at Old Trafford.
Rangnick revealed in 2019 that Klopp’s recent clamour for players from Leipzig and RB Salzburg, has shown that he has a similar outlook when it comes to signing players.
Rangnick told Sky Sports: “He doesn’t need to thank me, but it is definitely no coincidence that he has four former players, three former Red Bull players and with Joel [Matip], another former player of mine.
“It shows that he is looking for the same kind of players, with the same assets and the same mentality, as we do.
“I think out of the top clubs in Europe he is probably the coach that probably has the highest number of former players of ours.”
Klopp’s vision for the types of player he likes to sign is, seemingly, similar to Rangnick’s, meaning the Liverpool boss’ recent recruitment drive at Anfield could be similar to the sort of deals his fellow countryman would look to conclude at Old Trafford.
Rangnick has previously placed an emphasis on the importance of getting recruitment right, suggesting that United have failed in recent years.
Speaking back in August 2019, HE told The Times : “Since Sir Alex left they were underperforming. They haven’t won the title since he left. At any club, if you cannot get the right players, then you should at least not sign the wrong ones.
“You are in trouble if you do that in one or two or three consecutive transfer windows.
“Club building is about building the right squad by transferring the right players away and having more than 50 per cent success rate of bringing in the right players. Then you must have the best possible coaches to develop these players.”
