Rahane returns as Vice-Captain for WI Test series; Pujara, Umesh dropped

Veteran batsman Cheteshwar Pujara and seamer Umesh Yadav were dropped from the Indian side for India’s tour of West Indies. Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), on Friday announced India’s Test squad for the two match series against West Indies, where Ajinkya Rahane made his return as India’s Vice Captain for red ball cricket.

IPL stars Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Mukesh Kumar received their maiden call for the upcoming series commencing from July 12, 2023 at the Windsor Park Sports Stadium, Dominica. Meanwhile, veteran seamer Mohammed Shami was rested for the entire West Indies tour as Navdeep Saini was recalled to the Test side.

The second Test match will be played from June 20 at the Queen’s Park Oval, Trinidad.

India will also be guests to the West Indies for a three match ODI series beginning on July 27. BCCI announced Hardik Pandya as Rohit Sharma’s deputy in the limited overs format. The first two ODI will be played on July 27 and 29 at the Kensington Oval, Barbados. The third and final game of the series will be played on August 1 at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy, Trinidad.

India are also scheduled to play five T20 matches against the Windies. The BCCI will announce the squad later for the same.

The first match of that series will be played at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy, Trinidad, on August 3.
