Emma Raducanu has hired a new coach on a trial basis ahead of the 2023 season after splitting with Dmitry Tursunov in October. The British No 1 has been without a coach since the Russian walked away from her camp but has now appointed Sebastian Sachs, who is an experienced WTA coach despite being just 30 years of age – younger than a lot of the players on the tour.
Raducanu has a new coach in her corner following her shock split with Tursunov, who was the fourth coach that the 20-year-old parted ways with in the space of 14 months. The world No 75 has started a trial with Sachs, a relatively young coach who has plenty of WTA experience after working with the likes of Belinda Bencic and Victoria Azarenka.
The news comes as the Brit is set to play her first match in more than three months at Friday’s Mubadala World Tennis Championship exhibition, where she faces world No 2 Ons Jabeur. Raducanu had been without a coach since Tursunov chose to end their partnership in October but has since been dedicating time to her work in the gym after teaming up with Andy Murray’s former strength trainer Jez Green.
But she is back to working under the guidance of an experienced coach with the 2023 season just around the corner. Sachs has an impressive resume, working with world No 12 during her run to the Olympic gold medal in Tokyo last year, also coaching the Swiss player when she was upset by a then-world No 150 Raducanu at the 2021 US Open, where the Brit ultimately became the first qualifier to win a Grand Slam title.

But Raducanu then fired Richardson two weeks after her triumph in Flushing Meadows as she sought a coach with experience on the WTA Tour to help her navigate life on the professional tennis circuit, linking up with Torben Beltz last November before getting rid of him in April in favour of using a “new training model”.
Tursunov was her most recent appointment before Sachs as she hired the former ATP world No 20 for a trial over the North American hard-court swing with their partnership extending for three more tournaments before he ended their work together. While Sachs is currently just a trial for Raducanu, his younger age could make him a good fit for the 20-year-old, who could opt to make their partnership permanent if it proves successful.
