Qantas boss’ mansion attacked by vandals

Vandals are believed to have struck the home in Sydney’s exclusive north shore suburb of Mosman overnight on Monday.

Mr Joyce purchased the $19 million property with partner Shane Lloyd in May of this year.

Splattered eggs and toilet paper could be seen littering the roof of the home on Tuesday, however police are yet to reveal any leads on the culprits.

It comes as the Aussie national carrier faces public backlash for its treatment of workers during the pandemic and reduced service quality since flights returned.

The airline pocketed $855 million in jobkeeper from taxpayers despite standing down roughly two thirds of its 30,000-person workforce as air travel dried up.

Unions have savaged Qantas’ approach to saving money, which included the outsourcing of 1,683 ground crew worker jobs – a move later found by the Federal Court to be illegal.

Transport Workers Union national secretary Michael Kaine said recently that under Mr Joyce “Qantas has led a years-long war on workers to control the decline in wages and conditions in aviation”.

In 2018, Mr Joyce was revealed to have taken home a salary of $24 million, which he attributed to the airline’s strong performance.

Cost-cutting has since seen his salary shrink to a modest $2 million post pandemic.

The couple relocated from their inner-city apartment in The Rocks to the 1908-built six bedroom home, but according to neighbours have spent little time there since doing so.

This is despite the property boasting a home cinema, its own wine cellar and a huge double garage.

Sandstone steps lead from the newly renovated three storeys to a private jetty and shark-netted sea pool.

The pair also owns a summer home in Palm Beach which they purchased in 2015 for $5.25 million.
