MANILA, Philippines — Bernadeth Pons admitted she is still adjusting to playing indoor volleyball after playing her first two games for Creamline in the 2023 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Invitational Conference.

Pons scored her first four points in the pro ranks as she helped Creamline beat Gerflor, 25-18, 25-11, 25-12, to stay unbeaten in two games in Pool A on Thursday at FilOil EcoOil Centre in San Juan City.

“I’m still working out on my transition from the beach back to indoor as well as my adjustment to the system of Creamline,” said Pons in Filipino after playing in the last two sets of the match.

“I’m so happy because we won the game despite the slow start. We were able to recover right away. I am grateful for the trust given to me by my coaches because I am still struggling in my return indoor,” she added.

The Far Eastern University standout admitted that she is still adjusting to the tempo of the game after spending the last four years as a full-time Philippine women’s beach volleyball team player, winning two bronze medals in the Southeast Asian Games with Sisi Rondina.

“When I returned it was really a super fast play and it’s not that easy to pick up and adapt. I’m still working it out every day, observing my team in training. My mindset is to be always ready every time my number gets called,” she added.

Alyssa Valdez lauded Pons, who has been bringing a different energy and great work ethic to their team.

“She brings a different energy to the team and she is really professional. She’s the first person who will come in practice to prepare. She will also be the last man out,” the Creamline captain said in Filipino. “She’s a great model not just to the younger players but to seniors of the team as well. It’s always nice to have something na may change, we welcome change in our team, the change is Pons, so welcome. Pons looks good in pink.”

Pons will have more time to adjust as Creamline will have a 13-day break before its next match against PLDT on July 13 at Philsports Arena.
