Putting on the Fits
It was a week of delicious parties in rarefied settings.
On Wednesday, Burberry took over Lucien, the East Village canteen frequented by art-world insiders, chain-smoking models and Chloë Sevigny. About 60 guests sipped martinis and ate steak frites at the 10-day pop-up that features Burberry’s check pattern on everything including the awning, stools and, of course, invited friends.
The artist Laila Gohar and her sister, Nadia, celebrated their surrealist tableware line, Gohar World, at a tucked-away rooftop garden above Rockefeller Center. The sunset party on Tuesday drew from the sisters’ fashionable circle, including Emily Bode, Simone Rocha and Beverly Nguyen.
And last Sunday, “Downton Abbey: A New Era” held its premiere at the stately Metropolitan Opera, followed by an after-party at Tavern on the Green, which was transformed to resemble a villa on the Côte d’Azur.
The Gohar World party featured white doves, root-vegetable topiaries and a D.J. set by Mark Ronson.
Plenty of champagne was spilled at the party for ‘Downton Abbey.’ ‘The dowager would not approve,’ one guest said.
For its Lucien pop-up, Burberry not only replaced the awning, but also created special plates, napkins, coasters and matchbooks.
