‘Pupils love coming to it’ – Ofsted praises ‘good’ school

Carlton Vale Infant School, in Malvern Place, Kilburn, is celebrating another successful inspection by the school watchdog as it was found to be a ‘good’ school.

After an inspection on July 11 and 12, a report said that “pupils love coming to this school” and they feel “happy and safe” thanks to attentive staff knowing each pupil and their families well.

Ofsted said: “There is a strong community feel where everyone has a great sense of belonging. Parents and carers appreciated the positive school environment and nurture of their children.”

The school’s curriculum for special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) was particularly praised by inspectors due to leaders carefully considering how each subject is sequenced.

Teachers were said to have a “strong subject knowledge” and also effectively kept track of pupils’ reading progress to identify if anyone fell behind and needed help.

The report added: “Staff work closely with parents in the school. They are overwhelmingly proud to work here.”

However there was still room for improvement, as the school was told it must ensure all staff have expertise to routinely check on pupils’ understanding so that they consistently remember what they are taught across all subjects.
