Punters let loose at wild celebrations on Melbourne Cup Day
Thousands of revellers across the country have been celebrating on Melbourne Cup day, enjoying a significant dose of freedom.
Celebrations kicked off across the country following the running of the 2021 Melbourne Cup, which ended with a stunning victory for Verry Elleegant on Tuesday afternoon.
Racegoers let their hair down and not just at Flemington, with festivities also taking place at Eagle Farm racecourse in Brisbane and Royal Randwick in Sydney.
Punters at Eagle Farm were seen passionately shouting their chosen horses down the home straight – and we do mean passionately, as you can see below.
There were huge crowds at the Brisbane venue, where unlike Melbourne’s 10,000 person cap, Covid limits didn’t apply.
Most of the men donned smart suit jackets, while the women dressed in bright, elegant ensembles and a variety of interesting headpieces.
It was a similar story at Randwick. If one image sums up the atmosphere there, I think it’s this next one.
Revellers in Randwick watched the Melbourne Cup unfold on a large screen, with hundreds spotted fully thrusting themselves into the day’s activities, socialising and enjoying cold beverages in the sun.
Groups of friends were seen celebrating together, not shying away from an opportunity to showcase their outfit in a photo.
The day’s 24 degree maximum temperature made for perfect conditions for a day on the turf.
Over at Flemington and the party was just as wild.
