Punjab records over one lakh school students enrollment in a single day – Times of India

The Punjab School Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains claimed that the Punjab Education Department enrolled over one lakh school students during a special admission campaign on Friday, March 10, 2023. According to Bains, the target to enroll one lakh students during this campaign drive was achieved on the very first day.
The special admission campaign began on Friday, March 10, 2023, from 8:00 AM to 10:00 PM. A total of 1,00,298 students were enrolled in various Punjab State Government Schools on the first day.
“The enthusiasm could be gauged from the fact that even as the server of the departmental website was down, the admission work continued till late at night,” the minister said in a statement.
The Education Minister also claimed that a large number of students studying in private schools have shifted to government schools.
The minister said that district Fatehgarh Sahib registered 134.6 percent admissions against the target, while students in Ferozepur, Barnala, Amritsar, Bathinda, Kapurthala, Patiala, SBS Nagar, Malerkotla, Fazilka, Tarn Taran and Sangrur also enrolled in government schools in a high number.
“It is quite clear from the overwhelming response to the admission campaign that the people have endorsed the policies of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann-led government,” he said.
Harjot Singh Bains said that his government has taken various measures to improve the quality of education in government schools, including launching schools of eminence, providing uniforms and books well in time, ensuring clean bathrooms and constructing new rooms and boundary walls.
The admission campaign is scheduled to continue till March 31, 2023, across every government school in the state of Punjab.
Bains also added that the state government has recruited a large number of school teachers in the past year.
