PSVR 2 Will Be Playable at Tokyo Game Show 2022
Attendees of Tokyo Game Show 2022 will be among the first to go hands (and head?) on with Sony’s upcoming PSVR 2 virtual reality headset, as announced by Capcom. Yes, Capcom.
Surprisingly, the first public demo for the PSVR 2 headset has been announced by Capcom via a press release rather than an official announcement by Sony.
The Capcom Japanese press release (translation via Gematsu) states that players attending Tokyo Game Show 2022 will be able to try out the new PSVR 2 headset with a small demo of Capcom’s Resident Evil Village, the latest entry in the long-running horror series.
The demo will let players explore a section of Castle Dimitrescu and experience “ultimate immersion” thanks to the transition to VR.
Capcom actually has some decent history with PSVR. Resident Evil 7 was released with an optional VR mode. Rather than being a tacked-on afterthought, the Resident Evil 7 VR mode allowed players to play from start to finish inside the PSVR headset. Capcom also further supported the PSVR with a Resident Evil “Kitchen” demo prior to the main game’s release.
If you’re making the flight over to Japan this September – Tokyo Game Show 2022 runs from September 15th – 18th – you could be one of the lucky few that gets to don Sony’s latest goggles before they become available to the wider public.
Sony has recently announced that the PSVR 2 will release early next year, though there’s no word on any exact release date or pricing as of yet, though there’s a chance we’ll learn more during Tokyo Game Show 2022. If not, then The Game Awards show is set for December 8th. Heck, Sony could even throw its own bash and run a State of Play specifically for the PSVR 2, without the time constraints of a live-streamed industry event.
