PSG’s Sergio Rico in ‘serious condition’ after horse riding accident in Spain
Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Sergio Rico has been left in a serious condition in hospital after a horse riding accident in Spain.
The 29-year-old is in the intensive care unit at Sevilla’s Virgen del Rocio hospital, with local reports stating that he collided with a runaway horse and was unseated.
The former Fulham and Sevilla goalkeeper was taken to the hospital by helicopter where he remains in a serious condition.
A statement from his current club read: ‘Paris Saint-Germain learned of the accident involving its player Sergio Rico on Sunday and remains in constant contact with his loved ones.
‘The entire Red and Blue community offers them its full support.’
Former club Sevilla posted on Twitter: ‘Lots of strength and a speedy recovery.’
Rico is second-choice goalkeeper at PSG and has not played for the first team this season, but has made 14 first team appearances since first joining on loan in 2019 before making the move permanent the following year.
The Spain international played a full season in the Premier League with Fulham on loan from Sevilla in 2018-19, playing 32 times for the Cottagers and 29 times in the Premier League.
